Let’s Get Started – How To Draw a Fox

You will need to get your materials together for this drawing. Here is a list of everything that you will need.

  • Marker, pen, or pencil to draw with
  • A piece of paper to draw on
  • Crayons, color pencils, or markers (optional)

There are only 10 easy steps in this how to draw a fox tutorial. The steps are broken down by 5 body parts.

  1. Head
  2. Ears
  3. Body
  4. Legs
  5. Tail

Once you learn how to draw a fox you will be able to doodle them just about anywhere at any time!

Doodling triggers the creative part of your brain and causes you to think. This can be a great creative exercise to get the creative juices flowing for other projects.

I personally doodle every single day, in my journal, on napkins, and anywhere that doodling is allowed.

How To Draw a Fox Step by Step

Now for the fun part! Get out your piece of paper and marker (today I will be using a fine marker.) You can use whatever works best for you.

Step 1

You will start by drawing the head. This should look like a curved upsidedown pyramid, or as the shape of a guitar pick.

Step 2

Now you will draw one rounded arch like a half citrus for the left cheek.

Step 3

Then starting up in the middle draw a second citrus shape as the right cheek.

Step 4

Now draw two eyes on each side in the top-middle of each of the citrus shapes. Then at the bottom where the two meet, draw a little round nose.

Next, you will draw two pointy ears on the top.

Step 6

Don’t forget to color in the dark areas of the inside ears.

Step 7

Now you will draw the body. The body will be an oval (avocado shape) starting from just after halfway down the cheek area of the head around to the other cheek. Now draw a smaller oval inside that for its belly.

Step 8

Next, you will draw the legs. The legs will be in the center area, draw the left leg first, then the right leg, the feet pointing outward.

step-8

Step 9

Now you will draw the back legs. Start with a black foot on each side, then on the left draw a round loop that looks like a chicken leg connecting to the foot and body. and repeat on the other side.

step-9

Good job, you’re almost done!

Step 10

For the tail, you will start on the right side of the body just below the head about a quarter-inch down, with a curved S line to the right. Then at the tip of the curve draw a half-moon shape back to the body.

Now to complete the tail, at the tip of the tail draw a squiggly tip to the tail.

step-10

And that’s it, you’re done!

Optional Steps

  • You may also decide to add a few dots for accents above the citrus loops. I’ve added dots on the forehead, on the bottom curve of the tail, and the left leg. Feel free to add as many or few as you like!
  • You may also decide to color in your fox! You can use color pencils, crayons, or markers. I will be using color pencils on my cartoon fox.

You may not get it exactly perfect on the first try, but keep practicing you and you will know how to draw a fox like a pro!

Observe the steps, and practice, practice practice.

When coloring your fox, you can try to add a little bit of shadowing by coloring in one edge of the fox a little darker with your orange color.

Shading can add complexity to your drawing, and in the future, you may want to learn the basics of drawing from scratch, including shapes, shading, and more.

Conclusion

Not everyone is great at drawing, but with this cartoon fox, pretty much anyone can learn how to draw it in under 5 minutes. Drawing doodles like this cartoon fox may inspire you to draw more and to pick it up as a hobby.

If you are not so great at first, just practice more. Anyone can accomplish anything by being consistent with trying and practicing. After all, practice makes perfect.

“I sometimes think there is nothing so delightful as drawing.”
